FreeScore TV Bloopers: Funny. Bad Credit: Not So Much.

February 17, 2012, by Billy Bad Score

As the king of credit bloopers, I’m the guy who screws things up when you apply for a loan, job and insurance. Tripping up people when they try to use their credit is something that brings a big smile to my face—right behind my trademark hockey mask.

Maybe that’s why people like it so much when I wind up getting the boot on FreeScore’s TV commercials. If you like laughing at my expense, you’ll LOVE these funny outtakes from the latest commercials starring your truly. (Despite their move-star good looks, I consider the Good Score Guys lowly extras.)

It seems the Good Score Guys don’t take credit bloopers lightly.  You can imagine my joy at watching them try to maintain their composure in these hilarious clips.

Those do-gooders are dead serious when it comes to preventing me from causing mischief in people’s lives. And I hate to admit it, but FreeScore does help people avoid credit bloopers. Not only does FreeScore give you full access to your 3 credit scores, so you can make sure I’m not one of them; it also protects your credit with 24/7 credit monitoring and automatic credit alerts.

Remember: Keep me around your scores and your credit is sure to be the butt of jokes. Bloopers from our commercials may be funny, but bad credit is no laughing matter.

Starting February 6th, we will begin national airing of our two new TV commercials each entitled, “Starter Home.” The two commercials offer something for both men and women.

The new commercials were first announced in Direct Market News.

We have one spot featuring a woman looking at her dream home with a real estate agent.  When the agent sees that the woman’s third score has literally gone down the toilet – the real estate agent walks out on the deal.

In the male version, a young man is tuned into to buying the house of his dreams when the music goes sour with his third credit score of 583.

The 60-second spots point out you have three credit scores.  One bad score can blow the deal on your dream house.  The announcer on each spot notes: “At FreeScore.com, you can keep an eye on all three of your credit scores and know just where you stand at all times with 24/7 credit alerts, unlimited access to your complete credit profile and the easiest way to spot inaccuracies.”

To see the spots visit our YouTube page or check it out below!

FreeScore.com will also be producing 30-second commercials of the spot.

According to Jeff Paradise, senior vice president of FYI Direct, Inc., the parent company of the FreeScore.com brand, “As mortgage rates have hit an all time low, we felt this was timely.  The mortgage markets seem to be opening up.   For example, leading mortgage providers are eliminating the minimum credit score requirement for borrowers seeking a mortgage refinance from their existing servicer, as long as they have at least 20% equity in their home.  Yet, scores below the mid-600s may still have difficulty obtaining a loan.  So, in these spots, we are reminding people to take control of their credit before they start the purchase process.”

Free App!! — Also, check out our free credit app for house hunters and real estate agents with a smart phone or mobile device.   The free, full-featured app is designed for users “on the go”.  It includes the following:

  • Ability for members to immediately access their three credit scores and credit reports
  • Ability for anyone to compare their credit scores to others in their zip code
  • An interest rate calculator
  • Current mortgage rates
  • A search function to find homes in your area
  • Real estate news and information
  • Other news on financing and information on credit and credit scores

I’m embarrassed (even more than usual). Sure, with my reputation as the one bad credit score that ruins everything, it’s no wonder I wear a mask. But the new FreeScore TV commercial gives me a bum rap. If you’ve seen it, you know that I was arrested for robbing someone of a low interest rate.  The guy fingered me in a lineup of common criminals (and those oh-so-innocent-looking Good Score guys). But as I said to my court-appointed attorney (people with bad credit scores can rarely afford a private one), why should I take the fall for someone else’s negligence?

Think about it: I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. It was my accuser’s responsibility to check his three credit scores before he applied for a loan – but he didn’t. I wouldn’t have been there to ruin his shot at the best interest rate if he had simply stayed on top of his credit. When you come right down to it, I didn’t just show up in his credit profile; he put me there!

Lots of people make me the fall guy for their credit problems. But don’t judge me, folks. Use better judgment with your credit. I don’t force you to run up your credit card bills, forget to check your credit report for fraud and errors, and leave your credit at risk without the protection of a credit monitoring service. Hel-lo! Anyone ever hear of assuming responsibility for your own actions (or inaction)? I didn’t “rob” that guy of his low interest rate. He cheated himself out of it by failing to make sure that all three of his credit scores were high enough to qualify for the rate he wanted.

If you don’t want me hanging around your credit profile, you need to check your credit scores and reports regularly. That’s why FreeScore updates them every month. FreeScore also monitors your credit 24/7 and alerts you to sudden changes in your credit files at the top three credit bureaus: TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax. You’ll know about problems ahead of time, so you don’t get caught by surprise when you apply for a loan, lower interest rate, insurance, or job. And if you think I’m bad, just think of the field day identity thieves can have with your credit if you don’t have it monitored. Those guys really do belong in jail!

I hope my case gets dismissed. If it goes to trial, the prosecution will probably pack the jury with people with bad credit scores – people like the guy in the commercial who are eager to blame me for their problems. But I’m just the poor schlepp that their own bad habits brought into their lives.

So don’t blame me when your credit turns out to be not up to par. Blame yourself for practically inviting me to ruin everything. Am I a criminal? No way. A misunderstood creation of your own negligence – guilty as charged!
